Situated in the heart of the Lachlan Valley, Forbes is a former gold mining town and is one of the richest primary producing areas in the State. The town has become renowned for its historic buildings, well-tended parks and gardens and picturesque lake. Bushranger Ben Hall once terrorised the district, and today, relics of the bushranging past may be seen at the history museum on Cross Street.
