Boston Bay provides an idyllic setting for this beautiful city at the southern tip of the Eyre Peninsula. Protected at its entrance by Boston Island, the broad expanse of sheltered water is three-and-a-half times the size of Sydney Harbour and is an excellent venue for water-based leisure activities of all kinds. The wonderful natural harbour has always been put to good use as a source of food and a means of transport. A jetty was built for the port in 1875 and the town grew as agriculture and fishing expanded. Lincoln Cove Marina is home to Australia's largest commercial fishing fleet, as well as upmarket residential and holiday accommodation.
The water dominates at Port Lincoln, and attractions such as the Axel Stenross Maritime Museum reflect this. Several lookouts around town afford fine views of Boston Bay.
