Tucked into a sheltered corner of the bay, the picturesque town of Streaky Bay serves a rural community and a thriving fishing industry. A great many fish species are caught in the bay as well as crayfish, crabs, abalone and scallops. Oyster farming is a relatively new industry in the area. Streaky Bay is also a holiday resort, attracting visitors to its bays, beaches and coves to swim, surf, sail and scuba dive. Recreational fishing is popular and jetties and boat ramps are provided for public use. A life-size replica of the world's largest white pointer shark taken by rod and reel is displayed in the Stewart Shell Roadhouse on Alfred Terrace.
