This picturesque town is strategically placed approximately 18 kilometres inland on the Bega River, and at the junction of the Princes and Snowy Mountains highways linking Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne. Surf and snow enthusiasts may like to test the claim that when staying in Bega it is possible to snow ski and ride the waves on the same day. First settled by farmers and timber-cutters in the 1830's, the rich dairying land of the Bega Valley has long been famous for producing fine quality cheeses.
