Blayney flourished during the goldrush of the 1850's and '60s and today is a centre for the surrounding farming and grazing region of the picturesque Belubula River Valley.
Centrally located as a base to explore the district's historic settlements, Blayney is located in a pleasant valley setting 14 kilometres south-west of Carcoar, a fine example of a 19th century township. A few kilometres north of Blayney, Millthorpe is another historic village worth visiting for its quaint shopfronts, hotels, workers' cottages, bluestone churches and well-to-do town homes. In Blayney itself, Heritage and Carrington Parks are pleasant for picnics, and a fine view may be found from Church Hill Lookout.
