Cowra is located on the Lachlan River, the centre of a thriving farming district and growing wine region. Cowra is perhaps best known for the Japanese prisoner-of-war breakout during World War II. Today, visitors may see the War Cemeteries, the Japanese Gardens and Cultural Centre and remains of the POW camp.
