The southern gateway to the Far South Coast, Eden lies on the northern shore of Twofold Bay, approximately 50 kilometres from the Victorian border. The town is a deepwater port and tourist centre, with a long history founded on the whaling industry which flourished from 1818 until the 1930's. Sightseeing cruises and fishing trips operate on Twofold Bay and whales are once again a fascination with whale-watching a popular pastime. On land, Eden's memorable Killer Whale Museum commemorates the whaling, fishing and timber industries. Whaling relics include the skeleton of 'Old Tom', the killer whale who once guided whalers to their prey.
