Iluka is a small fishing and resort town lying 20 kilometres off the Pacific Highway, at the mouth of the Clarence River. A regular passenger ferry service links Iluka, on the north shore, to the larger resort of Yamba on the south side of the river mouth. Fishing and family holidays are popular here, and there are excellent beaches near Iluka and a netted family swimming area at the western tip of Iluka Bay.
Access to the 2.5 kilometre Rainforest Walking Track through the World Heritage-listed Iluka Nature Reserve is from Long Street. The seaward end emerges at Iluka Bluff picnic area where a lookout and whale-watching platform revels a brilliant view of Yamba and the Clarence River estuary. Rich vegetation provides habitat for a diverse bird population and the Reserve is also an important koala corridor to the adjoining Bundjalung National Park.
