Junee is an agricultural and grazing town and an important rail centre for southern New South Wales. In fact, it is hard to miss the fact that Junee is a railway town, as the track runs through the middle of the central business district. The railway station (1883), an impressive Renaissance-style building, was the inspiration for several hotels to use the same style of architecture.
Today, visitors may see railway memorabilia as well as the district's pioneering history at the Historical Museum in Broadway Street. For railway buffs, the Junee Roundhouse Museum is a must. It incorporates the largest operational roundhouse in Australia, and features a 32m turntable, locomotives, carriages, and part of the original workshop.
