Lithgow is situated an easy two hour drive from Sydney, on the western slopes of the Blue Mountains. An area rich with outstanding natural attractions, rugged cliffs and soaring vistas, Lithgow also has several man-made attractions worth seeking out. The most famous is the great Zig Zag Railway, the original rail line into the Lithgow Valley, which dates from 1869. A thrilling section of the line has been restored and is now a major tourist attraction. In town, visitors may see examples of Lithgow pottery and items relating to the history of the area at historic Eskbank House (1842).
