The northern gateway to the Southern Highlands, Mittagong nestles in the valley of the Nattai River beneath Mount Gibraltar (the Gib) and the wooded slopes of Mount Alexandra. An attractive town, Mittagong has many homes, both large and small, and public buildings built from the beautiful local sandstone. It is well known for its gardens, art, craft and antique shops.
One of Mittagong's greatest assets is Lake Alexandra Reserve. Just three blocks from the main street, this popular picnic spot is home to a profusion of friendly bird life.
