Echuca-Moama represents a bygone era of horse-drawn carriages, paddlesteamers and blacksmiths. The twin towns, situated on opposite sides of the Murray River, began at a river crossing, with their fortunes diverging after Henry Hopwood suggested to the government that Echuca be developed as a river port.
Today, the bustling Port of Echuca is one of the regions main attractions, recognised as one of Australia's finest heritage icons and home to the largest riverboat fleet in the world. The Port stands as a testament to the riverboat pageantry of yesteryear and offers an extraordinary insight into the Murray's pioneering days.
