Lying six kilometres inland, this quiet rural centre services dairy and beef country and also has a small fishing industry. The river - with its mangroves, oyster leases, channels and mud banks - is a good fishing spot. Along its banks there are pretty picnic spots. Clustered in the centre of town are some beautiful old buildings; the courthouse, post office, churches and old Bank of New South Wales are all fine examples of mid-19th century public architecture. Moruya Museum preserves regional history, including that of the gold period at Mogo. Outside of the township, Deua National Park, inland from Moruya, is a rugged area of special interest to bushwalkers, canoeists and caving enthusiasts.
