Angaston is a picturesque rural town in the Barossa Range, east of the Barossa Valley. Fine examples of colonial architecture and a shady park with picnic and barbecue facilities adjacent to Angaston Creek complement the village atmosphere of this little town. The main street running through town is Murray Street, featuring art and craft shops, tearooms, and many other attractions. As befitting a Barossa town, food features highly in these attractions, including dried fruit and cheese. The early name for the region was German Pass but the town has a mainly British heritage. It was built on land taken up by George Fife Angas, a prominent figure in South Australian history who encouraged English and German settlers. The town was named after George Fife Angas in 1841.
