Map of Ardrossan, SA 5571

Ardrossan‚ on the east coast of the Yorke Peninsula‚ was named after the seaport in Ayrshire‚ Scotland. Originally known to Europeans as Clay Gully‚ the town has come a long way from that time when the first settlers lived in dugouts. Today it is a thriving seaport‚ shipping grain all over the globe from one of Australia's richest wheat and barley-growing regions.

Ardrossan is a popular holiday town with plentiful fishing‚ with possible catches including the King George whiting‚ garfish‚ and mullet. The town is also renowned for squid and blue swimmer crabs.

Other coastal activities include boating and diving; the dive wreck 'Zanomi'‚ which sank in 1867 in a storm‚ lies ten nautical miles south-east of Ardrossan.
