The large rural district surrounding this inland town produces mainly wheat and sheep. Cleve is a neat and interesting town surrounded by a landscape of rolling hills. It caters mainly to the landholders, providing most of life's necessities from food to agricultural machinery to units for the aged. Recreation areas fringe three sides of the town and include an eighteen-hole golf course, ovals, swimming pool, tennis and basketball courts, bowling green and a skate park. Located within Cleve itself is the National Trust Museum, in the old council building on Third Street. Featuring early pioneering artifacts from household articles to farming ploughs, the museum also has an extensive collection of photos and is open by appointment. Five kilometres from town, Yeldulknie Weir (which dates to 1912) is an attractive recreational area complete with picnic facilities, toilets, and walking trails.
