Located a few kilometres off the main Gawler to Kapunda road, the residential township of Freeling is positioned to take advantage of two worlds. Its location at the northern edge of the Barossa Valley, close to Gawler and only sixty kilometres from the heart of Adelaide means residents are able to commute to the larger Barossa towns or to Adelaide for employment and major shopping facilities, while at the same time retaining the peace and serenity of country living in a small community.
Freeling is worth visiting for its old stone public buildings and houses, many of them decorated with attractive iron lace trims and some dating back to the early years of settlement in the 1860's. More recently, Freeling found fame as the home of popular television series McLeod's Daughters. Fans of the now-defunct show will recognise landmarks from around town, such as the "famous" Gungellan Hotel.
