This picturesque town serves a prosperous agricultural area in the state's Mid North. Farmers produce sheep, cattle, wheat, barley and legumes while timber from pine and eucalypt plantations at nearby Bundaleer Forest is another local product. Belalie Creek, a beautiful and permanent watercourse flows through Jamestown and creates a pleasant setting for the picnic and barbecue areas established along its banks. At night it is floodlit. A scenic drive leads to Bundaleer Forest Reserve, eight kilometers to the south. Forest walks, picnic and barbecue facilities and a playground for children are located in the reserve. The National Trust Museum preserves the past in the old Railway Station complex. Displays include mementos of the district's pioneering days as well as vintage railway equipment.
