A small rural and holiday town, Meningie lies on the eastern shore of Lake Albert at the northern end of Coorong National Park. Today, Meningie is a service centre for a thriving dairy and irrigated fodder-cropping area that also produces wheat, barley, sheep and beef cattle. Fishing is a significant industry and the fleet of professional fishing vessels has a proud record of one hundred years of sustainable fishing on the lakes and Coorong.
An interesting attraction in Meningie is the Coorong Cheese Factory and Restaurant. Here, visitors may not only have a good meal and a glass of wine, but have a look through the museum to discover how cheese is made. The museum also features curios from around the district, from tractors to commodes.
