More than five thousand hectares of irrigated vineyards, citrus and stone fruit orchards have transformed the once desolate mallee scrub around Waikerie into the 'Citrus Centre of Australia'. Reinforcing this title is the home of the visitor information centre, Orange Tree Giftmania; visitors will spot the large 'orange tree' on the roof. Local dried fruits are available here, and a viewing platform on the roof provides views of the Murray. A large citrus packaging house, dried fruit, wine making and fruit juice processing are complementary industries that help support the town.
