A picturesque little town on the western shore of the Tamar River, Beauty Point is the base for a seasonal fishing fleet and also the home of the Australian Maritime College's second campus, where fisheries and seamanship courses are conducted. A fleet of training vessels berth at the college wharf, while close by a great many private yachts and motorboats find anchorage at the Beauty Point Marina. Beauty Point is also connected to George Town via the Shuttlefish Ferry, which runs daily across the Tamar River.
The area is popular for water sports such as sailing and fishing and has a number of safe swimming beaches. Picnic facilities are located on the Esplanade behind Sandy Beach. Beauty Point is also the home of Seahorse World, a world first tourist attraction for Tasmania where visitors can take a tour and discover the amazing world of the mythical seahorse.
