Map of Bacchus Marsh, VIC 3340

Bacchus Marsh is a long-established town in a fertile valley‚ once marshland‚ located 48km west of Melbourne. Dating from the 1830's‚ the town retains a number of historic buildings including the Manor House (1846)‚ built by Captain William Henry Bacchus; the sandstone courthouse (1858)‚ one of the first in Victoria and still in use; the gaol and the National Bank‚ all of which are listed by the National Trust.

The eastern approach to town is via the impressive Avenue of Honour‚ which features a canopy of elm trees in memory of those who died in World War I. In the shade of the trees‚ roadside stalls sell local produce. Bacchus Marsh is close to both Werribee and Lerderderg state parks and makes a perfect base from which to explore both of these beautiful parks.
