This perfectly preserved goldfields town of the 1850's is famous for its fine honey-coloured granite buildings (over 30 of them classified by the National Trust) and also for the beautiful colours of its autumn foliage. Beechworth is a tourist mecca: its wide streets, shaded by century-old trees and lined by heritage buildings, galleries, antique and speciality shops, are visited by thousands of people every year.
