Torquay is a fast-growing, busy coastal resort with something for everyone. Less than 20 minutes from Geelong, its location at the eastern end of the Great Ocean Road makes an ideal base from which to explore the spectacular coastline and hinterland. Renowned as the 'Surf Capital of Australia', Torquay's magnificent stretch of coastline is recognised as having the best waves this side of Hawaii. Torquay is close to Jan Juc surf beach, and not far from the world famous Bells Beach, home of the Rip Curl Pro World Surfing Titles, held each easter. Located at the Surf City shopping centre in Torquay is Australia's largest surfing museum, Surfworld. It is not compulsory to be a surfer to enjoy Torquay. Front Beach is quite suitable for families, being protected from most ocean swells by Point Danger. On land, the Foreshore Reserve, situated behind the beaches along the Esplanade has a children's playground, rotunda, picnic and barbecue areas.
