Map of Australind, WA 6233

This small town on the Leschenault Inlet is a coastal resort and dormitory suburb of Bunbury‚ 12 kilometres south. Bordered by the inlet and two rivers‚ the Collie and the Brunswick‚ Australind is a popular destination for water sports enthusiasts who can take advantage of the excellent conditions for fishing‚ prawning‚ crabbing‚ boating‚ sailing and windsurfing.

Australind was the site of an ambitious but unsuccessful land settlement scheme in the 1840's‚ and today many of the old buildings remain. An interesting reminder of the early days is the historic Church of St Nicholas opposite the shopping centre. Made of jarrah and measuring only 3.8 × 6.7 metres‚ it claims the distinction of being the smallest church in Western Australia. Henton Cottage‚ opposite the church‚ is also of historic interest. Built in 1841 as the Prince of Wales Hotel‚ it now houses a Visitor Information Centre and shop.
