Carnarvon overlooks The Facine, the south arm of the Gascoyne River, on the State's north-west coast. Lying just south of the Tropic of Capricorn, Carnarvon's sunny climate is ideal for the many fruit plantations established on the fertile river flats and for the holiday-makers who come to take advantage of many local attractions.
The old One Mile Jetty, the tramway, the Kimberley steam loco and the Lighthouse Keeper's Cottage (c.1900) now form the Carnarvon Heritage Precinct. A museum of local history is housed in the Lighthouse Keeper's Cottage, and the Shearers Hall of Fame is nearby.
