Donnybrook is a cattle‚ dairy and sheep farming area and is renowned for its quality fruit. Granny Smith apples were introduced at the turn of the 19th century‚ and Donnybrook was the place where the first commercial crop of Granny Smiths were grown. The now-famous Lady Williams apple was discovered on Boronia Farm by Mrs Williams who was affectionately called Lady Williams by the local children. As the apple centre of the south west‚ each Easter Donnybrook plays host to the Apple Festival.

As of Easter 2008‚ Donnybrook is home to Australia’s largest free-entry playground‚ the Apple FunPark. Featuring equipment for toddlers to teenagers and even parents‚ the playground is located on Collins Street and is a must whilst in town. An attractive picnic area with all facilities is located beside the river in Trigwell Place Recreation Area‚ south of the Old Railway Station. Three kilometres south of Donnybrook‚ off Goldfields Road‚ Old Goldfields Orchard & Cider Factory offers a real goldmine‚ orchard tours‚ a cider factory‚ a restaurant and picnic areas.
