Hopetoun nestles in the bay of Mary Ann Haven‚originally the tiny port for all supplies to Ravensthorpe and the Phillips River Goldfield from 1900-1937. One or two early buildings still stand‚ the Port Hotel commanding a scenic position overlooking the Southern Ocean. The old jetty no longer exists but a new groyne provides boat ramp and limited jetty facilities.
Pristine beaches stretch east and west and Fitzgerald River National Park lies ten kilometres westward‚ offering stunning views‚ walks‚ a botanical paradise and geological wonderland. Walkers can follow the old railway line walk trail between Ravensthorpe and Hopetoun‚ which passes a settlers cottage‚ the ghost towns of Kundip and Desmond and traverses bush filled with flowers and wildlife.
