The centre of the South West's premier wine-growing area, Margaret River is a thriving destination popular also for its proximity to stunning coastal scenery and fabulous cave systems. The town is the ideal base for exploring the entire peninsula from Cape Naturaliste to Cape Leeuwin, lying as it does on the banks of the Margaret River. This river flows into the Indian Ocean eight kilometres west at Prevelly, home to the region's famous surfing beaches and annual surfing competitions.
Wine-tasting is obviously very popular in the Margaret River region - the visitor centre has maps, details of winery opening times and the varieties and specialities produced.
