Founded in 1829 and built on the banks of the Swan River, Perth is internationally renowned for its abundant sunshine and relaxed way of life.
Perth's modern skyline blends with magnificent colonial architecture, housing excellent retail outlets, particularly around Hay and Murray streets. A number of art galleries and museums, historic buildings and parklands are centered around the CBD. Stirling Gardens, on St Georges Terrace, is the city's oldest park, established in 1845, with the Old Courthouse taking the honours for oldest building; it dates from 1836. Other attractions include the Art Gallery of Western Australia, Kings Park, the Swan Bells, London Court (a retail walk done in the style of Tudor England) and the Perth Mint.
