Melrose is the oldest town in the Flinders Ranges, South Australia. The town was once named "Mount Remarkable". According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, the town is relatively small, with a population of 347 reported by the 2016 census. At the 2011 census, Melrose had a population of 406, indicating that in recent years there has been a substantial drop in population.The town is known for its proximity to Mount Remarkable and the surrounding National Park, its caravan park and historical sites including Jacka’s brewery and Melrose Courthouse.
