Your last six searches are saved. When you start typing in the field they will drop down if they match the letter you are typing. They will be top of the list, where you can choose one. The rest of the list are auto-suggestions matching the letters you are typing.
If for example it is your first time to the site then there will be no recent searches, so the drop down list will just be auto-suggestions.
